Summary of the February 2025 Webinar

As an organisation, THRIVE Project endeavours to guide humanity towards a more thrivable future. We had the privilege of hosting these three speakers as guest presenters for our webinar.

Dr. Geoffrey Ebbs – “Personal Responsibility and the Polycrisis

In a compelling presentation, Dr. Geoffrey Ebbs discussed the tendency for people to focus on themselves and those around them, before the planet, and how this connects to United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 12, on responsible consumption and production.

Specifically, he notes how economic growth is often linked to increased impacts on our planet, and the tendency for producers in developed nations to prioritise growth, regardless of the impacts. In contrast, those in developing nations often face a greater share of issues as a resul of our changing climate such as biodiversity loss and collapsing ecosystems.

To this end, he seeks to demonstrate how producers and communities can support the planet and those around them to reduce their impacts.

Sofia Katzin – “Waste Transformation Solutions: A Circular Economy Solution for High-Quality Animal Feed”

The second speaker, Sofia Katzin, highlighted the issue of how 1/3 of all food produced is wasted. As a result, millions of tonnes of food waste reach our landfills every year, causing the creation of methane, a greenhouse gas which is much more potent than carbon dioxide.

She introduced a potential solution; black soldier fly larvae, who thrive on food waste and convert it to high-quality fertilisers. This process not only minimises waste but also creates circular economy opportunities by producing sustainable alternatives to traditional animal feed and chemical fertilisers.

She also highlighted businesses that have used black soldier fly larvae to reduce landfill dependency, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and help create thrivable food systems, transforming food waste into a resource.

Amar Singh Yadav – “A Sustainable Business Model for E-waste Management”

Following our first two compelling speakers, Amar Singh Yadav rounded off the webinar by focusing on the importance of recycling and managing the growing amounts of electronic waste (or e-waste), with a focus on its impacts in India.

He also discussed how his business, Aseries Envirotek India Pvt. Ltd. is tackling the issue of e-waste, including how they engage stakeholders and ensure regulations are met, as well as how they guide other businesses on managing their e-waste to be more thrivable.
